I am a person who appreciates order and when there is a definitive right and wrong. This is the cornerstone of mathematics: the rules don’t change. Studying math has allowed me to build the skills to break down problems into manageable parts. By pursuing a mathematics degree, I will continue to strengthen my analytical skills, solve problems creatively, interpret results, and teach the next generation of students to do the same.

I consistently strive to challenge myself both in and out of the classroom. I am enrolled in the Prince William County Public School system – the second largest district in Virginia and the 33rd largest school system in the U.S. Our school district offers many specialty programs that prepare students for college. I was accepted into the AP Scholars Program at Patriot High School and have taken/enrolled in eight advanced placement/dual enrollment courses, and I plan to take six more before I graduate. I am a member of the Math Honors Society, which not only participates in math competitions but also gives me the experience of tutoring fellow high school students of various skill levels in many different math subjects. All these opportunities have allowed me to continue to develop a “trained thinker” mindset.
I grew up watching my parents promote a service mindset through their actions. My dad served our nation as an officer in the Air Force for a full 20-year career. My mom serves in our church, schools, and community. From filling a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child (through Samaritan’s Purse) as a young elementary student to serving in my church and high school, I have seen the value of prioritizing the needs of others above myself and the importance of giving back. Whether it is laying wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery each December, leading a group of kindergarten students during a church service, or helping incoming freshmen to feel more comfortable with the high school experience during Orientation, I have appreciated the opportunity to connect with others and offer a helping hand.

Juggling academics with music, sports, and clubs, I continuously improve my focus and discipline, as I must prioritize my tasks and manage my time more efficiently. Music provides a valuable outlet to express myself creatively. Sports and clubs enable me to be part of a team and collaborate with others while building relationships. These activities have given me the chance to build lifelong skills and open myself up to new opportunities.
While I recognize that my educational journey is just beginning, I believe that the instruction I have received at Patriot High School and the opportunities afforded to me outside of the classroom are helping me to become a more balanced and versatile student. Experiences in school, church, on the court, in the concert hall, and in my community are the foundation of who I am, shaping me for a successful career where I can meaningfully contribute to our society.
